Proposal for Park & Ride at Cappagh Park

From this week's Galway City Tribune - Part of a site purchased by Galway City Council adjacent to Cappagh Park could be used as for a Park & Ride on weekdays and for overflow parking at weekends – taking pressure off neighbouring residential estates.
A 7.5-acre site purchased by the Council last year is earmarked for an extension to the network of sports and recreational facilities at Cappagh Park.
It includes a children’s playground, four dressing rooms, a community centre, an all-weather pitch, a grass soccer pitch a full-size GAA pitch as well as a junior size one.
The facility is so well-used that parking at weekends and most evenings is at a premium, with some motorists opting to park dangerously on the Cappagh Road and in local estates, much to the annoyance of residents.
Galway City Council Chief Executive Brendan McGrath told a meeting of local area councillors that part of the site could be used for a Park & Ride for the west of the city – one of two planned to encourage commuters out of their cars during peak hours under the Galway City Development Plan.
Knocknacarra councillor Donal Lyons said he understood the proposal had been sent to the National Transport Authority to see if it was a feasible location and whether it merited funding.
