Planned extension of Jury's Galway will create 55 new jobs

Galway City Tribune - The owner of Jury’s Inn on Quay Street is planning a major expansion which will see the addition of nearly 90 bedrooms and the creation of 55 new jobs.
According to hotel management, Galway City’s bedroom stock will not be able to cater for the “massive increase of tourists” expected in the coming years, particularly next year when Galway holds the European Capital of Culture title.
The Israeli company which owns the Jury’s hotel chain is planning to construct two new floors, a new bedroom wing facing onto the River Corrib and an overhaul of the hotel’s ground floor and façade, including a new larger entrance area.
Management say the 130-bed hotel has an occupancy rate in excess of 98% during summer months and cannot service the increasing demand. If given approval by Galway City Council, the project would take around 13 months to build, and would see the hotel close for around six months.
At the moment, the hotel employs 65 to 70 people during peak season, and expects to create a further 55 jobs between guest services and management. This is a preview only.
