Pádraig Conneely to bow out of politics

Galway City Tribune - One of the most controversial and colourful figures in local politics for over a decade, Pádraig Conneely, will not be contesting the local election in May.
The two-time former Mayor of Galway has confirmed to the Galway City Tribune that he is bowing out of local politics to focus on other pursuits.
“I feel now is the time to pass the torch to a new generation in local politics that will bring youth and energy to our vibrant city,” said the long-serving Fine Gael politician.
Former Galway footballer, Eddie Hoare, is expected to be selected instead of Cllr Conneely, to run alongside sitting Councillor Frank Fahey, as the party looks to hold its two seats in Galway City Central.
