O’Connor excited by what’s going on at Utd
GARY O’Connor is returning to a coaching role with Galway United’s senior squad after being named as first team coach, having spent the last season and a half managing the club’s U17 National League squad.
O’Connor, who served as interim manager of United at the end of the 2016 season alongside Leo Tierney, joins Lisa Fallon on Caulfield’s backroom team, having been on hand to help Caulfield settle in as manager following his appointment last season.
“I’m thrilled to bring Gary back into the first team fold at the club,” Caulfield said. “Gary assisted me for a while when I first took over, but the circumstances didn’t suit for him to get involved fully then. We’re delighted that things have changed and it suits Gary to become a part of the backroom staff at the club now.
“He’s an excellent coach with a great personality, and he'll fit in well with the management team we have in place,” Caulfield said.
O’Connor cut his teeth in the League of Ireland when acting as assistant manager to Johnny Glynn at Mervue United at the turn of the last decade. When United returned to the national league in 2014, he was brought in as assistant manager to Tommy Dunne, with the pair guiding the club to promotion at the first time of asking.
