A 26-year-old father of two will be sentenced in July for burgling his neighbour’s home.

Ryan Golbey, of Fana Burca, Knocknacarra, pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to trespassing at a neighbour’s home in Fana Burca in a manner likely to cause fear in another on February 13, 2020.

Defence barrister, Brendan Browne, asked for time to prepare a plea in mitigation and for an up-to-date probation report on his client prior to sentence taking place.

Judge Brian O’Callaghan enquired if Goldbey was a first-time offender.

Mr Browne conceded that was not the case and that the probation service had dealings with him in the past. He said his client had suffered a recent family bereavement and any report from the probation service would deal with that.

In reply to the judge, Mr Browne confirmed his client had last been under the supervision of the probation service three years ago.

Judge O’Callaghan requested an up-to-date probation report before adjourning sentence to July.  He warned Goldbey it was up to him to contact the probation service and not the other way round.
