Man due in court over alleged ‘car-jacking’
A man in his 20s is due before Galway District Court this morning in relation to an alleged ‘car-jacking’ in Ballybane on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at Beal Srutha at around 11.30am when a man returned to his car from a shop. Another man, aged in his 20s, entered the car without permission, threatening the driver and forcing him to drive on.
After a short period of driving, the man demanded the driver leave the vehicle with him to buy alcohol. At this stage, the driver managed to flee the scene. The driver, a man aged in his 20s, received no injuries during the course of the incident.
Gardaí have charged a man, who is due to appear before Galway District Court at midday.
