Hansberry hits key scores as Maree secure overtime win

THERE was mixed news for Galway’s two men’s Super League sides at the weekend, with Maree needing overtime to claim a crucial win against Dublin Lions; but Moycullen came up just short on the road against Killorglin of Kerry.
That was the only defeat for a Galway team at the weekend, as Maree’s Women’s Super League side moved into outright second-place in the table following a 14-point win away to IT Carlow; while in the Women’s Division 1, NUIG Mystics are right in the hunt for honours in the Southern Conference following a 12-point win at home to UL Huskies.

A seven-point haul from Kenneth Hansberry in overtime helped Maree to a crucial win in this meeting of two of the bottom three sides in Oranmore on Saturday night.
The visitors came into the game on a run of 10 straight defeats, but they had been running teams close in recent weeks and they will have targeted this game as a chance to get their first win of the season.
They certainly looked on course to do just that for much of this game, as an out-of-sorts Maree struggled to make plays on offence. However, the home side came good in the final quarter, and led by three with just five seconds remaining.
Lions went up the court and while Aran Lee was off target with his 3-point attempt to tie the game, Romonn Nelson grabbed the loose ball and hit nothing but net on the buzzer from outside the arc to send the game into overtime.
