Gardaí investigating whether city centre fight involved a hate crime

From this week's Galway City Tribune - Gardaí are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry into a street brawl in the city at the weekend involving at least six people at three different locations.
The Galway City Tribune has learned that Gardaí are investigating whether the fight – which led to three people being hospitalised – could have a link to hate crime.
The fight began in the Shop Street/Bridge Street area after midnight on Sunday night last.
Shortly after 1am, the fight between the two groups moved to the Prospect Hill area, where one man can be seen from social media footage getting punched, knocked to the ground and kicked a number of times.
The three people who were hospitalised on Monday following the incidents were released later that morning – one of those involved is understood to have lost a tooth.
“We are investigating the incidents under the Violent Disorder section of the Criminal Justice Act and also a potential hate crime link to what happened,” a senior Garda spokesperson told the Galway City Tribune.
