Galway greats feature in ‘Our Field of Dreams’
ENTITLED ‘Our Field of Dreams’, this fascinating book features the stories of a host of legendary Gaelic footballing greats from across the 32 counties, stretching back over the decades.
Overseas clubs and associations from the UK and as far distant as South East Asia, Canada and Boston have also generously highlighted their varied activities and progress in their adopted lands.
Ladies football – the LGFA – and its origins and development is also comprehensively covered, with stories too from a number of former stars, including Dunmore’s own 2004 All Ireland winner, Geraladine Conneally.
Former inter-county referee, Mick Curley, offers an insight into his involvement in ‘A Funny Old Game’ while Galway greats Martin Newell, John Keenan and Gay McManus feature prominently throughout the pages.
Sports commentator and journalist Jim Carney puts the spotlight on the early years of The Sunday Game, of which he was the first presenter, on July 8, 1979.
Barna historian, Padhraic Flaherty, who has since sadly passed away, has paid a glowing tribute to the great Seán Purcell and his glittering footballing career spanning three decades into the 1960s, "His skill, his versatility, prowess has labelled him the greatest ever Gaelic footballer", Padhraic writes.
