‘It’s clear this junction is unsafe and the problem is clear to see for everyone’

A Galway councillor has branded a new reconfigured junction in the city as “farcical” after a fourth crash took place there in recent weeks.

Councillor Shane Forde confirmed that on Monday evening another accident happened at the bottom of Parkmore Hill making it the fourth incident in the last six weeks.

He also added that no businesses or local residents were informed before the new layout was installed.

“Now, they are rushing to finish this debacle before Race week starts next week,” Councillor Forde said.

He continued: “On Tuesday morning, I visited the location to see road resurfacing had started but the problem is clear to see for everyone.

“I first highlighted this on April 17 and still this situation is farcical.

“It’s my intention to seek an urgent meeting with Minister Sean Canney on this matter as it’s clear this junction is unsafe for commuters, local residents and have not engaged properly with companies in Parkmore.”

He added: “I will keep you updated on my work to try get a meeting with Minister Canney urgently.”
