Detectives poring over CCTV footage in sex assault investigation

From this week's Galway City Tribune - Gardaí investigating a sexual assault on a young city woman last weekend have set up a special incident room to co-ordinate their probe into what they are treating as ‘a very serious case’.
Two teams of detectives – from the Protective Services Bureau and the Crime Division – are this week poring through CCTV and stills images of the Woodquay area.
The young woman – who is understood to have been extremely traumatised in the aftermath of the assault – was treated at University Hospital Galway in the early hours of Sunday morning following her ordeal. The victim is understood to have suffered minor physical injuries.
It is understood that the woman got separated from a group of friends in the Woodquay area around 11.45pm on Saturday night last, August 7, before having a conversation with a man she did not know.
The serious sexual assault is understood to have occurred in the vicinity of a car wash facility with the ordeal for the woman lasting for around half an hour, before the alarm was raised shortly after.
Gardaí have made urgent appeals this week for anyone who may have mobile phone or dash cam footage from the Woodquay area between 11.45pm on Saturday night and 12.15am on Sunday morning, to make contact with them on 091 538000 at Mill Street Station or on the confidential Garda number of 1800 666111.
