Killjoy Galway City Council officials have been asked to stop picking on children in a Knocknacarra housing estate.

Members of the local authority removed portable goalposts from a green area of Cartur Mór at 5.30 in the morning in early July causing much anger locally.

Eight weeks on, and the goalposts haven’t yet been returned to the children on the estate, depriving them of their favourite pastime.

City councillor Cathal Ó Conchúir has renewed his appeal for the Council to return the two sets of goalposts.

He said families in the estate forked out over €500 for the aluminium goalposts, and they were taken by the Council without permission.

They now want them back, and have come up with a plan that could satisfy the Council’s health and safety concerns. For the rest of this story, see this week's Galway City Tribune. Buy a digital edition of this week's paper here, or download the app for Android or iPhone.
