From this week's Galway City Tribune - The anchor units in the extension to Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra – a flagship Harvey Norman store and Boots – look set to open their doors early next month.

It’s understood both Harvey Norman and Boots are planning to open their doors in the days leading up to Easter weekend.

The Harvey Norman outlet at 60,000 square feet will be their second largest in Ireland, behind the 61,000 sq ft premises in Tallaght. At least 50 people will be employed there. There will be a large 100-seater Synge & Byrne café upstairs in the superstore.

Other confirmed tenants in the second phase include Evergreen health shop and Carraig Donn.

An international name (not involved in fashion) is in talks to lease another unit, while talks are also ongoing with an ‘outdoor’ store, sports outlet and pet shop – understood to be an operator which does not already have a presence in Galway.

A large gym will occupy much of the upper floor of the new extension.

Construction work will begin soon on three new café/restaurant outlets on the part of the site currently behind wooden hoarding – two will be occupied by Camile Thai and Esquires Coffee and talks are ongoing with potential operators for the third unit.

Meanwhile, a major expansion of Dunnes Stores in the retail park into two new adjoining units is also set to get underway – the plan involves a complete overhaul of the store and will include a new food hall with a Café Sol.
