A 25-year-old city man who scammed 26 Liverpool FC supporters faces time behind bars if he doesn't compensate his victims.
Jonathon Farrell of 20 Merlin Park Lane pleaded Guilty to five sample counts of theft of varying amounts of money in January 2009.
The court was told that he was unemployed and had gambling and alcohol problems but was engaging in a two-year treatment programme.
Judge Raymond Groarke described Farrell's actions as despicable, but said it was encouraging that he was seeking help.
He then adjourned sentencing for two years.
