Galway Chamber boss says park n' ride was low cost
Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Chief Executive of Galway Chamber, Michael Coyle says the park n' ride pilot service at Galway Airport was undertaken at a relatively low cost.
Michael Coyle says funds provided by the City and County Councils were used for the Airport's business plan and not specifically for park n' ride.
The service, which has been operating from Galway Airport in Carnmore into the city since May, has ceased with immediate effect.
The scheme was due to operate on a trial for 6 months to see if the demand existed, however the take up for the service was less than expected.
Mayor of Galway, Padraig Conneely, claims the City Council's Transport Department withheld information on the service.
He claims the department had a report which stated the park n' ride service would not work, but failed to give this report to councillors at a funding meeting.
Mayor Conneely says he's annoyed that all information was not presented to councillors before a decision was made.
CEO of Galway Chamber, Michael Coyle says the monthly funding from the National Transport Authority supported the pilot.
