Galway’s status as a European software hub for multinational software companies has been “firmly secured”, following the announcement of 250 new jobs this week.

US online gaming giant ZeniMax Online Studios has begun recruiting 150 English speakers, 70 French speakers and 30 German speakers for its European customer services centre in the Rahoon Business Park (near B&Q on the western side of the city).

The company offers online support for videogamers, through voice support and by email.

The announcement has been hailed as “yet another massive vote of confidence in Galway” by local TD Brian Walsh.

There are already more than 180 employees in Rahoon, and the new recruits are being hired to support the launch of ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’, the company’s first ‘Massive Multiplayer Online’ (MMO) game.

Jason Palmer of recruitment company Kelly Services said: “Prospective candidates need to be able to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues raised by players via in-game chat and email.

“Understanding the game is an important part of delivering service excellence to ZeniMax customers, so it would be an advantage if potential candidates have a passion for gaming.

Successful applicants will have a positive, helpful attitude, and be prepared to maintain strong customer relationships,” said Mr Palmer.
