Hundreds of bikers who gathered in Eyre Square this afternoon have signed petitions over new EU motorbike regulations.

Up to 300 bikers from all over the country took part in the Galway protest to highlight their opposition to the proposals.

These include banning motorbikes over seven years old from roads in the urban area, and making high-visibility clothing compulsory.

The rally of bikers left Eyre Square shortly after two o' clock and drove to Athlone where speeches are being heard around now. (5PM)

The petitions, along with those signed at rallies in Dublin and Cork, will be delivered to the EU parliament in Brussels next week.
