Galway Bay has been selected as a pioneer site for a revolution in ocean science. The Oranmore-based Marine Insitute is installing a revolutionary new monitoring system called 'SmartBay' off the Galway coast this week. A series of yellow floating buoys with ocean sensors will collect and transmit real time data on ocean conditions that will benefit scientists, fishermen, environmental monitoring agencies and the general public.
