Date Published: 22-Oct-2008
Galway airport workers have voted for strike action over cuts to their working hours. SIPTU members voted decisively for industrial action after management decided two weeks ago to cut workers hours by up to 19 hours a week in some cases. The union has served notice on management this morning and can go on strike at the airport from midnight next Wednesday. (29/10)In a statement to Galway Bay FM News, Managing Director of Galway Airport Joe Walsh said he regretted having to reduce working hours in a number of departments at the airport, but said the airport had tried to safeguard jobs in challenging times. Mr Walsh reassured customers that the airport will continue to operate business as normal.
