GALWAY AIRPORT FACING SERIOUS CHALLENGES

Date Published: 26-Oct-2011
Galway Airport faces a difficult task in turning around its diminshed status if it continues operating next year.
The Carnmore airport is to be downgraded to a category two facility when Aer Arann suspends flights to and from the airport next Tuesday.
47 staff at the airport will be let go as it'll just accommodate general aviation.
Several key posts such as air traffic control and fire-fighting services are being retained.
Councillor Liam Carroll, who's on the Board of Galway Airport, says they're doing everything they can to secure the airport's future.
