GALWAY AGE ACTION BRANCH URGES AGAINST CUTS TO ELDERLY

Date Published: 17-Sep-2012
The Galway Branch of Age Action has urged the government not to target the elderly for cuts in December's budget.
It comes as the group has asked for the public's support as they launch a national petition to protect the dignity of older people.
Particular concern has been raised at calls by the IMF for the Government to means test the State pension and the Household Benefits Package.
Petition postcards will be available at the Galway branch of Age Action from next week.
Niamh Hennelly of the Galway group says the elderly fear losing key community services.
