No decision can be made on the financial allocation on the provision of air services for the Aran Islands until the budget for Government Departments is revealed.

That's according to a spokesperson for the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht who says it has not yet been informed of its financial allocation for next year.

There are concerns among residents of the Islands that funding for Aran air will be cut or withdrawn, jeopardising jobs and a vital service to communities.

Islanders are determined to fight for the air service and have organised a meeting in the city next week to outline their objection to any withdrawal of the air service.

Galway TDs, Senators and County Councillors have been invited to attend the meeting which is taking place at the Meyrick Hotel in the city next Monday at 12pm.
