FUTURE OF PORTUMNA SHANNON OAKS HOTEL TO BE DETERMINED IN OCTOBER

Date Published: 07-Sep-2012
The future of the Shannon Oaks Hotel and Country Club in Portumna is expected to be determined in October.
A decision is due to be made on an insurance claim for the 3 star south Galway hotel, which was badly damaged by fire this time last year.
Receivers Grant Thornton who are appointed to the Begassa Limited Group behind the hotel, say the main body of the building has been secured.
A spokesperson adds that its future use will be determined by the outcome of an insurance claim currently being progressed.
A decision date is now provisionally set for October.
It's one year now [7/09/2011] since a large part of the hotel was destroyed by a fire believed to have originated in a chip pan.
At the time, a team of up to 60 full and part-time staff were let go until a time when business could resume again.
