Furby the kitten an internet sensation

BY DARA BRADLEY

Meet Furby, Ireland’s most famous pet, the Galway kitten, who became an internet sensation overnight.

A video of Furby, acting like a DJ and ‘mixing’ Bob Marley songs on an old-style record player, before hopping up onto the vinyl and spinning round and round, has captured the imagination of the World Wide Web.

The video, filmed by Furby’s owner, James Corballis at his apartment in Galway city centre, is believed to be the most viral video ever – it was the fastest growing in the shortest space of time.

The numbers are phenomenal: It had been viewed by over one million times in 72 hours, and was viewed two million times in just six days, which according to James is the most viral Irish video ever.

Uploaded on November 30, last year, the number of views the clip has is heading for 2.7 million.

James, a sound engineer, spontaneously videoed Furby on his mobile phone before he headed off to work.

“I was in my apartment listening to Bob Marley when I saw my little kitten, Furby, run over to it. I filmed it and uploaded it and it just went crazy. It absolutely wasn’t set-up,” recalls James.
