Funding row rules out Macnas parade out of Arts Festival

There will be no Macnas parade in the city year as part of the Galway Arts Festival due to a row between the company and festival organisers.

Macnas has confirmed that it was unable to reach an agreement with the Arts Festival regarding funding, after months of negotiation.

The artistic company, which has been a major participant in the Arts Festival in the past, plans to stage a parade in Galway later in the year.

In a statement, Macnas says that the Arts Festival's cash contribution to the cost of staging the parade in recent years has been less than10 percent of the 100 thousand euro cost.
