The cost of transporting freight to the Aran Islands is to be reduced by 30 percent.Minister for Community Rural and Gaeltacht affairs Eammon O Cuiv has signed a new contract worth over 4 and a half million euro with ferry company Lasta Mara Teo agreeing the reduced rates. In effect these new rates will mean goods that would have cost 100 euro in freight 4 years ago will now cost only 35 euro this year.Lasta Mara Teo currently ferries goods from Galway Docks to the Aran Island but it will transfer it's operations to Ros a Mhil harbour in January 2009.Minister O Cuiv says the knock-on effect of this new agreement, should be a reduction in the cost of goods and services in the Aran Islands
