The government should instigate an investigation into An Taisce's recent report on planning practices which was found to be inaccurate

That's according to Loughrea area Cllr Jimmy McClearn who passed a motion on his proposal at this week's meeting of the local authority.

His comments follow the publication of a planning review report this month [JUN 12] which found no evidence of wrongdoing in any of the seven local authorities assessed, which includes County Galway.

Heritage body An Taisce had carried out an investigation into Galway County Council's planning in 2010 where a number of criticisms were made.

County Manager Martina Maloney says the local authority complies fully with relevant guidelines and the An Taisce complaints had cast aspersions on that.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Cllr McClearn says the council has now been rightly exonerated but An Taisce's report should now face investigation.
