Nine sheep killed in a series of dog attacks at Cortoon

INVESTIGATIONS are being conducted into three separate dog attacks in the North Galway area which has resulted in nine sheep being savaged to death.
The incidents occurred in Rahogarty North, Brownsgrove and are the subject of inquiries by both the Gardai and Galway County Council.
It is also understood that the Council’s Dog Warden Service will be carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area and will be carrying out licencing and microchipping checks.
Dog attacks on sheep are both traumatic and costly for the affected owners and the public’s help has been sought in relation to these matters.
The latest attack on the sheep occurred in the early hours of Thursday of last week and Gardai are investigating the possibility that the dogs responsible are local.
Garda Inspector Adrian Queeney of Tuam Garda Station told the Farming Tribune that these were particularly serious incidents and were worrying for neighbouring farmers.
He confirmed that investigations were continuing and that the Gardai were co-operating with Galway County Council and the Dog Warden Service in relation to the matters.
Inspector Queeney said that all dogs should be under control and that it is the responsibility of their owners to ensure this. In a statement, Galway County Council confirmed that their dog warden service had been informed of the attacks.
