County finals set to go-ahead in Monivea on Sunday

WEATHER permitting, the Galway Ploughing Championships are set to go ahead on Sunday in Monivea on the farm of well known vintage ploughman, Joe Kelly.
While the recent wet spell of weather has made land very soft, the Co. Galway Ploughing Association are confident that the event will go ahead as scheduled on Sunday(12pm to 4pm).
Chairman of the Galway Ploughing Association, Sean Gilligan, told the Farming Tribune that the site for the ploughing was a good dry field and that the event would be going ahead if the weather was reasonable over the next few days.
“It will be a big day for everyone involved with ploughing in Galway and it’s one that we’re all looking forward to.
“For anyone interested in having a look at the skills of ploughing, I would advise them to come early and see all the different categories in action.
“We will have four or five teams of horses taking part on the day and they are always a great attraction,” said Sean Gilligan.
The championships also normally attract a series of stands from some of the main local tractor and machinery groups.
