Over 30 million euro of EU funding could be made available to flood victims here, according to MEP for the North West, Jim Higgins.
A team of European officials are to visit Galway and other areas affected by severe flooding to assess the extent of damage caused.
The three North West MEPs for Ireland have flagged the issue with the Regional Development Commissioner in Strasbourg.
Pavel Samecki was shown pictures of the devastation.
The Polish Commissioner told the Irish MEPs that funding is available from the European Solidarity Fund but it's up to the Government to apply for it.
