Efforts to revive Tuam town community council

It was agreed this week that the matter should be discussed at their final meeting next month.Cllr Martin Ward suggested that some members might stay on for a few months at least and try to revive the town’s community council which has been defunct for many years.Mayor Imelda Kelly said some people had also suggested the setting up of a community council. She felt that while some members of the current board might want to be part of this, others would not. Cllr Pat O’Hora praised many of the other voluntary groups in the town but he questioned if there might be a danger that a Community Council without funds could become a talking shop.Mayor Imelda Kelly then said that they would come back to this issue at their final meeting next month.
