EAST GALWAY TD QUESTIONS CONTINUED BROADBAND DEFICIT IN COUNTY

Date Published: 29-May-2012
East Galway TD Paul Connaughton has criticised the fact that broadband will be made available to schools across the county, while residences cannot get connected.
High-speed broadband is being made available to all schools across the country under a scheme run by the National Council of Technology in Education.
Deputy Connaughton has raised the matter several times in recent weeks, both with the Public Accounts Committee, and directly with Pat Rabbitte, Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources.
However, he has been told that the schools broadband roll-out is part of a commercial agreement that does not include domestic customers.
Fine Gael Deputy Connaughton says it is not good enough that only half of the country is connected to high-speed broadband service.
