Drizzle doesnÕt deter determined taggers

Date Published: 04-Jun-2012

In contrast to the previous two weeks’ sunshine last Thursday’s tag rugby was played under a dark grey sky complemented with steady drizzle for most of the evening.

That didn’t deter the 70 teams from playing as enthusiastically as ever and partying on afterwards in the first of the season’s party nights in the Corinthians clubhouse.

The conditions meant the teams had to adapt their games to deal with slippery ground and a greasy ball and most did this quite well. Again there were some close contests particularly where seeding for the next round of games was involved.

In the Higher Grade Beetle Bonnets continue to lead the way with three wins from three but Busker’s Mangled Badgers and The Wafflers lurk just a point behind.

Following the first three weeks’ seeding rounds, what was previously the ‘C Grade’ groups will now be re-organised into Division 1 & Division 2, each sub-divided into Cup, Plate, Bowl and Spoon leagues.

In Division 1 there will be four teams in each league which will play each other twice over six weeks followed by the finals. The Division 2 leagues consist of six teams, each playing the others once followed by semi-finals and finals.

The Beginners’ Grade will also divide into four leagues consisting of Cup, Plate, Bowl and Spoon leading to semi-finals and finals. All teams will play until the finals night meaning everyone participates until the end. All results will determine grade and qualification for both this year’s All-Ireland Championships and next season’s groups. For more, read this week's Connacht Sentinel.
