The Bohermore road has now re-opened after it was temporarily closed to facilitate a delayed garda technical examination this afternoon into serious injuries to a pedestrian last evening.

The road had been closed off from Cemetery Cross to Prospect Hill from 3.30 to 4.30, approximately 21 and a half hours after the incident occurred.

It's part of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a collision between a pedestrian and a car at 6 last evening.

Such technical examinations take place soon after the incidents in question and Gardai have declined to say why this technical examination was delayed.

The woman, aged in her mid sixties, was struck by a car travelling towards the city centre and was taken to University Hospital Galway where she is still being treated for serious injuries today.

Cllr Ollie Crowe says it's the second such incident in recent weeks and is calling on city officials to urgently implemented a reduced speed limit.
