DEER CULL PLANNED FOR EAST GALWAY

Date Published: 25-Apr-2012
There are plans for a controlled deer cull in East Galway as spiralling numbers threaten farmlands.
Under the scheme, licensed deer stalkers are called out by farmers to shoot the protected species if they are damaging crops, forests or causing traffic accidents.
Galway East TD Paul Connaughton claims wild deer are causing unprecedented problems for motorists and farmers.
He's now seeking a meeting with Gaeltacht Minister Jimmy Deenihan and has recieved the support of Deputy Andrew Doyle who is seeking a similar cull in Wicklow.
