County planners are expected to make a decision on an application to build a new post primary building in Claregalway in the coming weeks. (19/02)

The plan, lodged on behalf of the Minister for Education, is for a temporary 2 storey school at the Claregalway business park that will accomodate 350 pupils.

County Galway VEC is the patron of the new school and enrolment is already underway for the 2013/2014 academic year.

Alan Mongey will officially take up his duties as principal of the new school on the 1st of February, leaving his current post of principal at Gairmscoil Mhuire in Athenry.

The Departments planning application involves the construction of a 2 storey temporary school building which will be housed within the existing structure of Claregalway business park.

It will include 7 specialist classrooms, 12 general classrooms, a GP hall and kitchen.

The site will also include provision for 15 car parking spaces, and a new vehicle access which will include a bus turning circle and frop off and pick up facilities.

Other works include 2 bicycle racks, and three ballcourts to the south and east of the proposed development and an external storage yard.
