Decision on Lough Atalia roadworks deferred again
Galway Bay fm newsroom - City Councillors have deferred making a decision on proposed roadworks at Lough Atalia Road for a second time.
The proposed works involve the lowering of the road under the railway bridge to facilitate the safe passage of high-sided vehicles. The works are expected to cost about 750 thousand euro, and will take an estimated two months to complete.A planning report was circulated at last evening’s meeting, and councillors voiced their concern following a fire incident at the Docks recently which saw city traffic come to a standstill.Councillors agreed that they couldn't approve the Part 8 application in the absence of a traffic managament plan for while the works are in progress. The council also suggested holding an information evening for residents and businesses in the area.City Manager Brendan McGrath told Galway Bay fm news that councillors' concerns will be addressed ahead of a special council meeting later this month.
