A Galway Senator says it is highly irresponsible of any law-makers to advocate non-payment of the household charge.

Senator Fidelma Healy Eames was speaking from the Fine Gael Ard Fheis in Dublin where up to 4 thousand people marched to voice their opposition to the charge.

An estimated total of over 735 thousand properties have now been registered for the household charge - as of the latest figures taken in the last hour.

This includes new rough tallies from local authorities of almost sixty thousand registrations on hand in offices around the country.

It's undersood the majority of transactions for the charge have been made online.

People can continue paying online until midnight, but after that paying online will automatically involve a 10 percent surcharge along with 1 percent interest.
