Customers distressed over card payments problem at Joyce's Athenry

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Several customers from Joyce's supermarket Athenry who contacted Galway Bay fm news reported accumulated totals of over €700 coming out of their accounts, after payments were not processed since June 12th.

Credit and debit card payments usually appear on a customers statement within a few working days of a purchase.

The National Consumer Agency has confirmed that they were contacted about the problem at Joyce's supermarket Athenry.

The Agency said there are specific rules that retailers sign up to when they offer card payment facilities.

The Irish Payment Services Organisation Limited has information on the rules and says payments that are not deducted from a customer's account within 30 days can be disputed.

Management at Joyce's supermarket in Athenry said they are working with customers to rectify the situation.

The spokesperson added he was not sure of the cause of the card payments problem, or how many customers were affected, and said customers can contact management directly.
