CROI- The West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation- is to seek permission to build a residential and education centre in Newcastle in the city. The centre will be used to accommodate relatives of heart patients undergoing surgery and to educate and train people about all aspects of heart disease.Galway city council decided to donate the Newcastle lands to Croi a number of years ago and at last nights council meeting councillors provisionally gave the go-ahead to CROI's plans. If CROI is granted permission for the facility the council will have to formally approve the transfer of lands at a future meeting. It's thought the building will cost about 3 and a half million euro and if plans are approved the centre would be up and running by late next year.
