The Mayor of County Galway says social inclusion awareness week will help create a fair and inclusive society.

Thomas Welby launched the event in Clann resource centre in Oughterard this morning.

Over 35 events are taking place around Galway during social inclusion week which runs until the 21st of October.

It was jointly launched with the "Out and Proud" roadshow, which celebrates the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Welby said social inclusion week would create awareness for people and communities who traditionally have been excluded from everyday life.
