Galway county councillor Sean Canney says he will resign from a policing committee if a decision to remove a Garda car from Corofin is not revoked.

The Joint County Policing Committee is a forum for gardai, local councillors and the public to discuss policing issues affecting the county.

Councillor Canney told this programme he attended a meeting of the joint policing committee earlier this week, but there was no mention of twelve Garda cars which are to be removed from patrol in the city and county.

The Tuam area councillor said that rural communities will suffer if Garda cutbacks continue.

Cllr Canney says the joint policing committee is little more than a "talking shop", with no real powers to make decisions.
