County Council publishes notice of CPO for Clifden to Maam road upgrade
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has published notice of a compulsory purchase order for the proposed road development of the N59 from Clifden to Maam Cross. The order for the compulsory acquisition of land will be submitted to An Bord Pleanála for confirmation. The replacement works on the N59 between Maam and Clifden would include almost 30 kilometres of standard carriageway and the provision of almost 12 kilometres of cyclist and pedestrian facilities. A number of bus stops and amenity areas are also included as well as the widening, replacement and provision of a number of bridges. Owners, lessees and occupiers of the land impacted will receive individual written notice. Final objections must be made by 5pm on Thursday the 9th of October. The original N59 upgrade had consisted of 44 kilometres along the existing road but was split into two sections in 2012 due to environmental concerns.
