COUNTY COUNCIL ORDERS WORK TO STOP AT ARDFRY

Galway County Council has issued an enforcement order following a report of unauthorised work on a late 18th century Gothic-style mansion.

William and Kathleen Greaney of Cregboy Claregalway have been ordered to cease any further work at listed building, Ardfry.

Archaeologist, Michael Gibbons has described the removal of stone from the two-storey ruin, which was once the home of Irish literary revival figure, Valentine Blake, as "wanton vandalism".

According to today's Irish Times, the owners must consult with the County Council's heritage and conservation offices about remedial works.
