COUNCILLOR WELCOMES REMOVAL OF CITY OCCUPY CAMP

Date Published: 16-May-2012
City Councillor Padraig Conneely says while he's delighted the Occupy Galway Camp has been dismantled, it should have happened months ago.
The camp has been in Eyre Square for seven months and as of last evening was the last occupy movement in the country.
Just after 4 this morning, 40 Gardaí moved in on the camp and removed six protestors.
A man in his 20s was arrested for failure to comply with the order but has since been released from custody.
Speaking on Galway Talks, City Councillor Padraig Conneely says it's good news that the camp is now gone.
The Occupy Galway movement will hold a general assembly in Eyre Square this lunchtime to discuss their next steps.
