Council receives 14 submissions on Quiet Man cottage
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has received 14 submissions requesting that the ‘Quiet Man' cottage in Connemara be added to the Record of Protected Structures. The cottage, which is located in Tiernakill South in Maam, appeared in the world famous 1952 film as the marital home of a couple played by John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. One submission contains an online petition with over 8300 signatures, which was started by a Belfast native now living in Canada, Paddy McCormick. Galway County Council's Heritage Department has confirmed that submissions will be presented to councillors on the proposals in July. The matter will then be discussed at the council's September meeting as part of the managers report for the 2015-2021 County Development Plan.
