COUNCIL INVESTIGATES ILLEGAL DUMPING OF MEDICAL WASTE IN TUAM AREA

Date Published: 11-May-2012

A local councillor is calling for a clampdown on illegal dumping after medical waste was discovered in the Tuam and Milltown areas.

Fine Gael Cllr Tom McHugh says the first incident occured in the last few weeks when urine filled bags were discovered on the outskirts of Tuam.

The bags had been thrown over a wall into a field.

This was followed by a similar incident in the Milltown area where similar waste products were discarded.

Both incidents were reported to environment officials at Galway County Council and all waste has since been removed.

Cllr Tom McHugh says the waste is understood to be from a domestic source.
