Council gets go ahead to build Kinvara treatment plant
Galway bay fm newsroom - A new wastewater treatment plant for Kinvara is to go ahead.
An Bord Pleanála has given approval for the long-awaited scheme.
The Board says it took into consideration the fact that untreated sewage is currently discharged into Kinvara Bay and that the new scheme would not negatively impact on the environment.
An Bord Pleanála says the County Council must implement the mitigation measures contained in the Natura Impact Statement which was submitted with the application.
The Council must also ensure that during construction, silt traps are installed at locations to intercept run-off into the bay.
Construction of the marine outfall must not be undertaken during the months of June, July, or October to April to protect sensitive spieces.
Senator Lorraine Higgins says it's good news for Kinvara, which relies heavily on the tourism industry
