Residents of a city housing estate have almost won their fight to prevent the city council from building houses on their green space. City councillors have the power to order city manager Joe McGrath to begin a rezoning process to allow residential-zoned lands in Corrib Park be rezoned as Recreational Amenity. The process of rezoning will involve changing the city development plan, a public consultation and final vote by city councillors. It's hoped the move will prevent any more houses from being built there. There was uproar among residents earlier this year when it emerged the city council had plans to build up to six houses on part of the Corrib Park green area.
