A 26-year-old convicted murderer from Lithuania will spend the next year in prison for his part in an attempted burglary in Mountbellew last March.
Arvydas Albrehtas with an address at 3 Tirellan Heights, Headford Road was arrested after a high speed chase through the city.
He appeared before Galway District Court charged with possession of a number of items which were intended for use during a burglary.
Before sentencing, Inspector Ernie White told the court that Interpol had informed him that the Lithuanian father of three was previously convicted of murder in his home country.
Judge Mary Fahy then decided to hand down the maximum sentence available to her and jailed him for twelve months.
